For many generations the Olympus Tough range has found the brand sitting comfortably at the top of its class and this isn't set to change with its latest offering, the Olympus Tough TG-5. Image quality has been improved significantly with this new model, with a fast f2 lens with 4x optical zoom, a new high-speed back illuminated image sensor and TruePic VIII image processor at the helm. Pictures are clear and low in noise, which is particularly handy in the less-than-sunny conditions that are found beneath the surface of the ocean. RAW image capture is supported which benefits post production editing, while the high-performance also extends to movie making, with 4K resolution on offer, as well as high-speed movie when the resolution is lowered to Full HD.

Appealing to its obvious demographic, the TG-5 features much of the same characteristics that have found previous Olympus Tough models popular amongst outdoor adventurers and thrill seekers. Great for hiking and trips to beaches and rivers, the TG-5 is waterproof to 15m, shockproof to 2.1m and crushproof to 100KG - so there's no need to hold back for the safety of this camera. Controls on the camera are easy to see and operate, which is of huge benefit when shooting in extreme conditions and underwater, while the field sensor system allows you to record and view numerous data types, such as location information, temperature and altitude. This information can be imported to your smartphone when the Olympus Image Track app is installed.

A number of shooting modes have been added to the Olympus TG-5 in order to encourage a more-pleasing user experience and hopefully more consistent results. These settings are easy to find in a hurry and will lead you to develop a more creative side to your photography, without having to be an experienced or serious shooter. There are 4 different types of underwater photography modes, a pro-capture mode and four separate Macro shooting modes, helping you to explore the miniature worlds that surround you in all their intricate details.
